My interest in reflexology developed when I witnessed the benefits this therapy gave my dad when he had cancer, and how it helped him with the side effects of the chemotherapy.
I have diplomas in both Reflexology and Swedish Massage and through my training have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
I think it is important to keep on top of developments within the field of reflexology and massage, and so I attend various workshops and courses in order that I can always give my clients the best treatments to suit their individual requirements.
I have a wide client base of people of all ages. They come for treatments for a variety of reasons some for relaxation and others because they have specific problems for which Reflexology or Massage can help relieve their symptoms.
I work from a dedicated treatment room within my home, however if you have mobility or care issues I can come to your home within my local area. In addition I offer workplace treatments for private and public companies and organisations. Please contact me if you think your organisation may be interested in this service rhonda_toetohealreflexology.co.uk

About Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing therapy with its origins in Egypt dating as far back as around 2300 BC. Modern day reflexology was developed by Eunice Ingham who over many years, mapped the zones of the feet in relation to the organs of the body.
It is not fully understood how reflexology works, however clients who receive reflexology feel the benefits in many ways. Working holistically, it enables the body to fight any imbalance brought on by stress by improving blood flow throughout the body and releasing any tension from within.
Reflexology is a natural therapy based on the principle that there are reflex areas on the feet and hands which correspond to each part of the body. Congestion can build up in the reflexes which mirrors congestion or tension in the corresponding area in the body.
A reflexologist uses gentle pressure on the feet (or hands) to release stress and tension and promote blood and nerve supply, which helps the body to return to a normal state. It is a safe and non-intrusive therapy which can be used on everyone, young or old, male or female.
As reflexologists we do not claim to cure specific conditions, however anecdotal evidence has shown that reflexology can provide relief for many ailments, including:
Many people also report a general improvement in physical and mental wellbeing with regular reflexology treatments.
Hand Reflexology
Reflexology can also be applied to the hands and this is a wonderful relaxing treatment. Hand reflexology is ideal for people who have a foot injury or infection (eg bad cases of athletes foot or verrucas) or perhaps have an aversion to having their feet touched. Or perhaps you would just prefer to have reflexology on your hands I am very happy to do this. You may wish to follow your foot reflexology session with some hand reflexology a very pleasant way to end the treatment (see Prices).
Please remember that reflexology is a complementary therapy and is not intended to be a replacement for medical advice or treatment. If you are concerned about any health issue which you may have, you should consult your GP.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it tickle?
Many people ask this and the answer is no it doesnt. The feet become adjusted to being touched with the initial relaxation techniques used and so even the most ticklish of feet should be able to cope!
Will it be sore?
Again, no it shouldnt be. There may be areas which are congested and these can be tender but I would reduce the working pressure on these areas in order to work on them and so keep within your tolerances. This is a relaxing therapy the aim is not to hurt.
Will I be fully clothed?
Yes, except for your socks and shoes. For your comfort it is easiest if you can wear trousers or leggings and have socks or popsocks which you can remove and put back on easily.
What if I have a foot infection?
That depends on how bad the infection is. If it is a mild case of athletes foot just between two toes then it would be OK to treat you. I would avoid that area or cover it with a plaster. This is to avoid spreading the infection on you. If you have a verucca, again I would cover it with a small dressing and avoid that area. However if you have widespread athletes foot or many verrucas, it is best that you see your GP or pharmacist for appropriate products to clear it up and wait till the infection has cleared before having a reflexology treatment.
What to expect at a treatment
On your first visit I will take a full case history which will should take no more than half an hour, so bring along a list of any medications that you may be on (if any).
All you need to do after that is lie back on the reflexology recliner and I will start to work on your feet. I will clean them first with wipes and then start the treatment. I will check with you that the pressure I am using on your feet is comfortable. I will ask you to let me know if any areas are tender as I work each foot but this is a relaxing therapy and I will work within your tolerances. Some people like to relax completely and drift off to the gentle music playing in the background, other people prefer to stay awake it is up to you (though you may get so relaxed that you cant help but drift off!)
Are there any side-effects?
Reflexology is a natural healing therapy and there are no side-effects. After the first treatment some people may go through what is termed a healing crisis where the body starts to cleanse itself and so there may be a temporary intensity of your symptoms or fatigue. However this is short lived and most people will have positive symptoms such as feeling refreshed, de-stressed and energised.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually between four to six treatments are needed, ideally on a weekly basis to achieve the most benefit. Often relief can be seen after one or two sessions, depending on how out of kilter your body is and how long you have had symptoms. Each session usually lasts for about an hour. You may not need more treatments, but sometimes clients like to top up and refresh with a monthly visit thereafter or just one-off visits when they feel the need. This of course is entirely up to you.
FAQS
Natural Facelift Massage
Natural face lift massage is safe and non-invasive and involves simple flowing massage techniques to help reduce the tension which can build up within the scalp, neck, shoulders and facial muscles. Micro-circulation of blood and lymph is gently restored within the face as the layers of muscle and connective tissue are systematically worked on, giving the facial muscles a lift and a new lease of life.
About Swedish Massage
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other benefits include stimulating the circulation in the area being worked, helping to increase muscle tone, and balance the musculo-skeletal systems.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing the heart load and in doing so it also brings nutrients and oxygen to the areas being worked. Massage may also help to slow down the formation of scar tissue and make existing scar tissue more flexible. Likewise, adhesions (knots) in the fascia which can develop through past injury or incorrect posture patterns may also be released.
Massage can provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems. Muscle tension and the related muscle spasm can often cause back, shoulder and neck pain and massage can release the spasm, bringing relief from the associated pain.
Chronic Pain
Massage helps break the pain spasm cycle whilst reducing the associated muscle tightness.
Stress Management
Massage helps to reduce stress and therefore is ideal for relaxation. The negative effects of chronic stress should not be underestimated research has shown that many diseases are brought on, or made worse, by chronic stress as the debilitating effects of the bodys own stress hormones released over a period of time can wreak havoc on each of the body systems eg cardio-vascular, respiratory, digestive, hormonal etc.
Pre and/or Post Event Sports Participation
Massage improves performance and recovery and reduces the likelihood of serious injury after an intensive sporting event or workout.
What to expect at your first appointment
On your first appointment, I will take a detailed consultation to get a picture of your past and current health, and this will determine which massage will benefit you most. For example if you are suffering from stress then a full body massage would be beneficial, with a lot of time spent on the neck and shoulders as this is where we often carry a lot of tension. Or if you are an enthusiastic runner then it may be your calfs or hamstrings which will need worked on. Minimum massage sessions are 30 minutes and this would be for specific areas to be worked on only eg legs, lower legs and feet, arms, lower back and hips or neck and shoulders. However I find that most of my clients prefer a longer session of 45 minutes or an hour.
I tailor my treatments to each person based on their individual requirements this will include type of massage strokes used and how long each area is worked so that you get the most benefit from each treatment.
With Swedish Massage, at all times the clients modesty is uppermost and so you will be covered with a large towel and only the part which I am working on will be exposed at any one time.
Please note: Although massage is suitable for most people, there are certain conditions for which it is contra-indicated, or which at least would require the permission of your GP or hospital specialist. For example for certain heart conditions, if you have a history of thrombosis, or are on certain medications. I always take a medical history for each new client and so would be able to let you know if I felt that massage was not going to be appropriate. In such cases I may often be able to do Reflexology instead, if you wished. When you contact me for your first appointment if you have any medical concerns we can discuss this and I can advise you if I think massage would not be appropriate. However, for the majority of people there would not be a problem.
Thai Foot Massage
With similar benefits to reflexology, Thai Foot Massage is a comprehensive mind and body treatment performed on the feet and legs. It has all the benefits of foot reflex and energy work and a fabulous massage, using reflex points (with a special "stick") and Thai Sen energy lines. Working on these energy lines helps to renew our vital energy.
Other benefits include:
Excellent foot and calf stretches for tired legs and feet
Better systemic circulation and cell nutrition - working the feet and legs, Thai Foot Massage stimulates the circulation vigorously
Better lymphatic elimination and immunity
Can help to give greater ankle mobility which increases stability and better posture which can ultimately affect the whole body.
